Queen Eleanor of Castile and her association with Lincoln

The marriage of Eleanor of Castile to Edward I was not only the start of one of the greatest love stories in the history of English royal marriages but also of Eleanor’s long association with Lincolnshire and the city of Lincoln. A highly intelligent, well - educated and powerful woman she is remembered and commemorated to this day by the Eleanor Crosses erected between Lincoln and London. There was also a darker side to Eleanor which bought her into conflict with the English people and made her the object of dislike and even hatred.

To learn more about this great, but not always good Queen and to discover answers to questions such as how Eleanor’s viscera ended up being buried in a tomb in Lincoln Cathedral, come and listen to a talk entitled “Eleanor of Castile and her Association with Lincoln”.
