The History of Lincoln Medical Society and AGM
2nd Octobber 2024
Dr Hilary Morris is a medical historian specialising in the development of British military and naval medicine and surgery during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. For the past ten years she has held the position of Apothecaries Lecturer at BSMS, taking every opportunity to work directly with staff and students across a variety of courses. She is the current convenor for the Diploma in the History of Medicine offered by the Worshipful society of Apothecaries of London and is extensively involved with plans to develop the subject at postgraduate level. When required she also acts as consultant to museums and television companies to ensure that medical history is portrayed in a lively yet accurate manner. "
"Having spent many years involved with various medical societies Dr Hilary Morris was previously aware of the existence of the Lincoln Medical Society. However, in 2022 following a move to the city, she initially began to research the Society in more detail as there appeared to be very little written about its history and its members. To date, she has located a rich though sadly forgotten archive which provides evidence not only of the immense importance of the Lincoln Medical Society within the city and beyond, but also proves that it existed in an earlier form dating to the late eighteenth century.
